Small White Lichen Vase

Inspired by the microscopic photographs I took of Golden Eye lichens at the University of Manitoba’s Herbarium workshop in 2023, I have continued my exploration of movement and growth in this sculptural series. Each lichen is individually sculpted and attached to the vase one at a time, often layered on top of each other. For added height some have been attached with high temperature wire. Reinforcing the spread and growth of the ceramic lichens, the front of the vase has been cut away, revealing the interior cluster. For added interest, some have been glazed clear.
